Valentines Sugar Cookies

Hey guy’s so Valentine’s Day is this weekend and wouldn’t it cute to make your partner these cute sugar cookies to show how much you love them? Not only are they cute but they taste amazing as well. There will make perfect pudding treats after a nice 3 course dinner if you been treated to one them this year. I hope you enjoy making these everything you need to know is below.

Let’s get baking!

¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter – (slightly softened to room temperature)
¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
1 large egg (room temperature)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 and ¼ cups (281g) all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt

Sugar Cookie Icing
Assorted Sprinkles

1.       In a large bowl beat together the butter until creamed and smooth this takes about 1 minute. Add the sugar and beat together again until light and fluffy for about 3 or 4 minutes, Scrape down the side of bowl so you don’t miss any mixture.
2.       Add the egg, vanilla and beat again all everything is mixed together this will take about 2 minutes, Scrape round the bowl as needed.
3.       In another bowl whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together this will also bring air into your mixture as well. Once whisked pour half the dry mixture into your wet mixture and mix until combined then do the same with the other half then you should start getting a dough texture if your dough seems to soft, you can add 1 teaspoon more flour.
4.       Add flour to you work top and pour all the dough on to your work to and knead until all combine and smooth, this can take up to 3 or 4 minutes, once you’re happy with your dough cover in foil and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
5.       After 30 minutes remove foil and knead again, once its kneaded and more flour to your work top and roll out not to thick but not too thin, If your dough starts to stick add more flour on your work top.
6.       Once rolled turn your oven to 350’f (177)’C. Line 2-3 baking trays with parchment paper, the batches will depend on how big or small you cut your cookies.
7.       Cut out your cookies and place on your try, Use all you dough don’t waste any. If using a standard size cutter you can make around 18 cookies.
8.       Once there cut out place on your oven in middle for about 10 minutes until edges are golden brown, once cooked leave them to cool before decorating them.
9.       When there cool it’s time to decorate. With your icing place into a piping bag and carefully draw round the shape of your cookie but not going right over the edge, While its still wet add you sprinkles or messages you would like on it then leave aside to set, Setting time will take around 30 to 40 minutes.
10.       Once set you are all finished, Place them a cute little plate or a gift box and surprise your partner with their own cookie.
